Bovey Construction, an independent building firm based in Caton, Ashburton, was highly commended in the single domestic dwelling category of the new Quality and Sustainability Awards run by Devon Building Control Partnership. This was one of four award categories, which, between them had four winners and just three runners-up selected from over 3,000 construction projects operating in 2007 across Devon.
Bovey Construction’s winning project resulted in the transformation of The Dell in Bishopsteignton from a single-storey gardener’s cottage with a 1970s extension into a two-storey building. Crucially, the design - and craftsmanship needed to bring the design to life - brought together traditional and modern architecture and building techniques, achieving a harmonious whole.
Managing director, Neil Turner, received his certificate from Cllr Diana Moyse, West Devon Borough Council Member and Chairman of Devon Building Control Partnership, on Monday 7 April at Forde House, Newton Abbot. Picking up on Cllr Moyse’s reference to innovation, quality and sustainability, Neil Turner later said:
“By 2016, all new houses must have zero carbon emissions. For those of us who refurbish existing houses, that may be a step too far, but we can - and already do – reduce the carbon footprint of traditional and refurbished properties in a number of ways: from very high levels of insulation and discreet solar panels generating renewable electricity to ground-source pumps that heat water as if by magic and wood-pellet burners that can heat an entire home.”
